To review the major events in Europe during the years immediately following World War II.
1 class period
Each class member is given a copy of pages 2A-2E. Pages 2D and 2E are joined together to form a 2-page map, along with a timeline.
The lesson contains a series of short reading sections, each of which is followed by directions for completing the map exercise and/or timeline. The reading sections are entitled:
• The Allies Make Plans for Peace
• Beginning of the Cold War
• The Iron Curtain
• Truman Doctrine
• Marshall Plan
• Berlin Airlift
• North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Warsaw Pact
Students can work on the map exercise during the period. Provide each class member with two colored pencils, if available.
Easy-to-follow Teacher Instructions and answer key included, along with a 20-question follow up quiz to measure student progress. The quiz can also be given as a homework assignment or used as a review exercise later in the school year.
