To learn the names and locations of the countries, cities, waterways, and landforms of Europe.
1 class period
This lesson includes four games based on the Tic-Tac-Toe concept..
Game 1: Countries
Game 2: Cities
Game 3: Physical Features
Game 4: Miscellaneous
The class is divided into two teams. Game 1 begins when a player from Team 1 picks any number between 1 and 9. The teacher then asks a question that can be answered by looking at a map of Europe in the textbook or an atlas. The first person on either team to raise their hand will be called on. If they give the correct answer, their team gets the space –– “X” for Team 1 or “O” for Team 2. When an incorrect response is given, the other team can try the same question.
The two teams will take turns picking question numbers. When someone is called on, they must answer immediately or the teacher will go to the other team.
The first team with three correct answers in a row –– horizontally, vertically, or diagonally –– wins the game. If neither team has three consecutive right answers, the team with the most answers is the winner.
Once the four games are completed, students are given copies of the second and third lesson pages, which contain all of the questions that were used to play the games, to do as a review exercise.
Easy-to-follow Teacher Instructions and answer key included.
