This project was designed to keep students active and learning through our national and state assessment altered schedule days. Originally, this project was created to utilize "in class" resources, as with state and national testing, the computer labs and carts were off limits to "regular" classes for a month. With an improvement in technology, students have had some access to iPads and other devices during testing windows, thus allowing this project to grow.
This project focuses on researching various European nations, applying both physical and human geography knowledge in answering questions and providing information. This project was originally designed as a poster project (again, needing to stay within the classroom during testing windows), however could make a fantastic PowerPoint or other digital media presentation.
The handout outlines required information as well as a rubric to grade by. On the final two pages, I have included a place for students to jot down notes as they research, which I found most helpful for my middle school students. This project was created for groups of 2-3 and took roughly one week of class time. Again, this project assumes much prior knowledge, thus makes a great spring or year end project on a part of the world that students are curious about.
