-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a complete lesson packet introducing students to the hardships explorers faced at sea.

The packet begins with a review of what motivated explorers: (3 G's: Gold, Glory, God) and connects these motivators to similar ones in our world today.

Next students are prompted to read an infographic and brief article about the risks of exploration (included!). A graphic organizer is provided to prompt students to outline major risks explorers faced.

At the lessons end is a fun creative review: students design signs to warn sailors about the dangers of exploring.

This word document is easily adaptable to your students needs!

Some suggestions:
1. pair with more documents/readings, even primary sources
2. depending on your class structure, read article(s) together, in student pairs, or independently
3. get creative with assessment; maybe your students want to design explorer protest signs instead of danger signs!
