This PowerPoint covers the early years of exploration of the New World. It starts off with the warm up questions on why Europeans were interested in the new world. Then the first section it takes a look at Spain's empire and the fall of the Aztecs and Incas. Next it covers the colonization of North America with the British, Dutch, and French. Also, for the different colonies it describes the style of rule the European nations put in place. Lastly, it takes a look at the goals of the colonies with the Colombian Exchange and the impact of slavery with the Middle Passage/Triangular trade. This PowerPoint can be covered in two 45 minute classes if you just present it as so. However, we spent a lot of time discussing possible answers with the questions I put in place throughout the PowerPoint. Also, the students enjoyed comparing goods from the old world and the new world and how they still use a lot of these goods today.
