This unit covers the European Middle Ages as a transition between the dissolution of the Roman Empire, and the rise of the Renaissance era and the formation of nation states. Contrary to perceptions of a primitive and backward era, the medieval age is presented as a time of rapid and far-reaching change that has shaped the civilization that we know today. Starting with the evolution of military tactics from which society emerged, the unit traces advances in architecture, religion, culture, and social organization. Materials include a powerpoint presentation with substantial notes, an outline keyed to the powerpoint, suggested classroom and project activities, and a complete multiple choice test with an answer key.
