In this activity students will analyze and evaluate advertisements. This product includes a worksheet and advertisement assignments for students to use. This project provides 10 groups with 3 different types of ads each. Students will then work in their groups to complete the questions for each ad assigned to their group.

To determine the effectiveness of the ad students will examine:

Advertising media

Type of ad

Techniques of ad

Target market


Internet access is required for the commercials. Depending on your students, you could also have them present their findings and evaluations to the class as an oral project. I use this assignment with my Introduction to Business and Marketing course when I teach Advertising.

You can also use the worksheet provided to evaluate the BIG GAME ads. To do this, visit YouTube and play one ad from the most recent Big Game at the time. I like to use the I do, We do, You do, modeling technique. Start by thinking aloud to answer each question on the worksheet for the commercial shown. Next have the students work with their shoulder partner to evaluate the second commercial and then discuss the answers together. Finally, have the students watch a third commercial and evaluate it themselves using the worksheet provided.
