Product Description
With the Common Core Standards, the new buzz words are EVIDENCE, ARGUMENT, and AUTHOR'S CLAIM. This Smartboard lesson addresses these terms (have students take notes). With descriptions of each, examples, and practice, students will gain a better understanding of these terms, they will learn how to evaluate an argument and identify an author's claim using appropriate evidence. A great lesson for difficult concepts to teach.
I follow up this lesson with individual practice using news articles from Time For Kids. They allow teachers to print articles and the articles could vary depending on reading levels and interests.
