This is a worksheet I made to let the students show me where they need extra help. It uses the idea of football to create levels of equations they must solve. Each level has 4 problems to solve before moving on. These are the levels --
Little League -- two-step equations
Middle School -- combining like terms
High School -- distributing
College -- distribute and combine
NFL -- variables on both sides
At the end, the students can say which is the hardest level for them AND attempt an MVP problem that contains distributing, combining, and variables on both sides.
In my class, to conserve time, I allowed students to complete two problems at each level and then go back if they have time. Then, when I tutor those that need help, we go over what they missed and attempt the ones they didn't try. I also put the names of those to achieved MVP on the board for recognition. All the students really seemed to enjoy it.
