Students are given 4 mystery water samples to identify based on the residue left on glass slides after evaporation. The procedure that student's use to identify the water samples and the expected results are completely described. The materials, procedure, and result table are provided and can be incorporated into a students lab notebook. A stand-alone water detective worksheet is also provided which is more appropriate for elementary students or for differentiation. There is also a short writing section for students to write about what they learned.
