Students read the biography, interview, and watch the video clip. As they are learning about Eve Bunting, they highlight important facts. I have my students record three important facts from each resource on a mini sticky note. Then they sort and stick their sticky notes on the class chart (pictured below). They love to see all the facts the class found! The students can use these facts to respond to the questions about Eve Bunting.
The next step I do with my students is to fill out the graphic organizer that compares texts (this can be used with any author!). We complete one column as a class (in our case we use “A Day’s Work” because it is in our anthology. Then they select a new Eve Bunting to read with their partner. As they read, they complete the chart. After they have read a total of three books by Eve Bunting, they can respond to the questions about Eve Bunting as a writer.
*I usually check about 8 or 9 Eve Bunting books out of the library.
