With this Fact or Fib Slap Down activity, students determine whether statements about a stimulus are true or false.
•Teacher displays the stimulus.
•Teacher provides a statement, allows think time, then says, “1, 2, 3 Slap down!”
•Students slap down either a fact or fib card.
•Students turn and justify to a partner why they chose fact or fib.
•Teacher verifies and clarifies as needed.
•Repeat with other statements.
This activity covers Texas 3rd Grade Math TEKS 3.4I.
(4) The student applies mathematical process standards to develop and use strategies and methods for whole number computations in order to solve problems with efficiency and accuracy. The student is expected to:
