This writing assignment can be used as an introduction to Medieval Times/Feudalism or as a summative assessment. The writing task directs students to write a letter to their principal that either supports the use of the movie Ever After as an educational tool or opposes it's use. Students use a graphic organizer to take notes about cultural elements they believe to be fact or fiction as they watch the movie. The lesson includes directions/web sources for internet research as well as a graphic organizer to record information they learn from research. The lesson also includes a pre-writing tool as well as a self-assessment rubric and a peer-scoring rubric.
