Evergreen Happy is an innovation of the poem Jack-O Happy. It is a 6 sentence rhyme that young children easily learn to read because of the repetition and easy sight words.
Each month, I introduce a new variation of the poem to my class. As my students become familiar with the poem, they enjoy predicting what the last sentence will reveal! For example, in Caterpillar Happy the last sentence is: But as a butterfly, he is best of all!
Evergreen Happy is the only character that comes with TWO endings. The first ending is: But decorated he’s best of all. The second ending is: But in a forest he’s best of all!
Considering the diversity in your room, and your school’s guidelines, you may choose which ending would be appropriate for your classroom.
This EASY book encourages young children to practice early reading skills and reinforces many of the Common Core Standards: RF.K.1a, RF.K.1b, RF.K.1c, RF.K.3d, RF.K.4
