The novel "Every Soul A Star" is a fantastic novel to introduce characterization and compare/contrast reading skills. This complete Smart Board presentation provides all the needed components for a class novel study and introduces students to the concept of literature circle roles. Students will conduct a variety of vocabulary, compare and contrast and comprehension activities with this lesson plan. Many chapter directions include a "Table Free Role Activity". To conduct this part of the lesson, I used a standard reading comprehension cube that the table teams would role to determine their assigned activity. Examples include such things as write 3 true/false questions about today's reading, draw a visual image of today's reading, etc.
