Every Soul a Star is a fantastic novel by Wendy Mass that follows the unlikely friendship of three very different teenagers as they gather to witness an eclipse. Bree is a shallow, hopeful model; Ally is a loner, who loves to study the stars; Jack is a shy, awkward young man trying to find a place to belong.
This story follows the three characters as they discover who they are and who they want to be.
I use this novel as 1 of 6 novels in a small group reading unit. This unit includes daily reading, activities, and vocabulary work. A multiple choice test with key, and a short answer test with key.
The daily work can be used as an all in folder as I use it or individual activities can be given to the whole class for group instruction.
The daily activities include figurative language, conflict, characterization, plot, summarizing skills, analysis skills, and much more.
Students enjoy this story because the plot moves quickly, the characters are realistic and relatable, and the theme is applicable to daily life.
