Every Word Has a Job is a collection of sentence worksheets with two dozen or so questions that help students learn sixty-three (63) vocabulary words related to sentence structure and grammar.
Achieving this continual review of the listed vocabulary is possible in 20 to 25 minutes a day. Abstract terms become concrete and an interactive conversation develops between the student and the teacher regarding content.
Forty (40) of these sheets were completed between January and May. By March, MAP (NWEA) showed that my students were ready for the state test with a 3.3 gain in Language from the first MAP assessment in the Fall of the year. In the two years that I have been using this systematic review, students as a group have increased nearly three grade levels (2.7) in my classroom.
