These activity sheets are designed to present real-life problems in a realistic context to provide children with situations in which everyday math comprehension skills are required. The tasks also provide a foundation for the development of problem solving skills and strategies.
The activities are based around a set of recurring characters who find themselves exposed to a range of real-life problems that need to be solved; the sort of problems that students may one day encounter. Most pages include a challenge activity, usually an extension of the main problem, which will further consolidate comprehension skills.

There are many strategies for solving every day math problems. Some of the main problem solving strategies included in these sheets are:
Act It Out; Make A Model; Make A Drawing, Diagram or Graph; Look For A Pattern; Construct A Table; Make A List; Restate The Problem; Solve A Simpler Problem; Account For All Possibilities; Use Logical Reasoning; Work Backwards
These activities are also available in a full eBook; 'Everyday Math 2'.
