Everything you need to teach “Letters to a Young Artist” by Anna Deavere Smith
This bundle contains each of the following packages. Read the package summary below:
A) Academic Vocabulary Package: A very detailed lesson on the Academic Vocabulary in “Letters to a Young Artist”.” It contains the Academic Vocabulary listed on page 122, as well other essential vocabulary. This lesson is a 3 day lesson. It contains 3 different differentiated activities. One for each day. It also includes a Power Point, 3 graphic organizers, and access to an interactive site with flashcards. Link and password is included in the document. On the site students will listen to the word, practice spelling the word, match the word with the definition, and play several games using the word. You can also give the students the password to access these flashcards at home.
B) First Read Package: Includes a very detailed Common Core aligned lesson on “Letters to a Young Artist”. This lesson is intended to be used with the 8th Grade Scholastic Code X textbook pages 123-129. It contains differentiation; thus, this lesson can be implemented regardless of what type of diverse learners you have in your classroom. Aside from general lesson plan components, it also contains original medial summary questions, differentiation, exit ticket, links to audio support, and a first read matrix worksheet. A corresponding Power Point is also included.
C) Second Read Package This includes a very detailed Common Core aligned lesson. This is a second read/close reading lesson. It is intended to be used with the 8th Grade Scholastic Code X textbook. It corresponds to pages 123-129., It contains differentiated activities; thus, this lesson can be implemented regardless of what type of diverse learners you have in your classroom. A Power Point is also included.
D) Identifying Evidence Package - This includes a very detailed Common Core aligned lesson. This lesson is intended to be used with the 8th Grade Scholastic Code X textbook pages 130-131 . . It contains differentiation; thus, this lesson can be implemented regardless of what type of diverse learners you have in your classroom. A vivid Power Point that corresponds to the lesson and an Identifying Evidence Graphic Organizer is also included.
E) Assessment Package: Contains a 15 question multiple choice quiz on the excerpt “Letters to a Young Artists” by Anna Deavere Smith. Questions rang from comprehension to analysis. An answer key is included
F) Craft and Structure Package: Contains 2 vivid graphic organizers that analyze the structures of the 3 letters in the excerpt “Letters to a Young Artist” by Anna Deavere Smith. It can be used as part of a lesson, as an extension activity, or given for H.W.
G) Central Idea Package: Contains a vivid graphic organizer that organizes the central idea of Smith’s letters and the significance of each. It can be used in your lesson, given for H.W., or used as an extension activity.
