Everything you need to host a Grandparent's Day Celebration! Invitations, activities and more. If you are looking to hold a similar event but with a different name, like Donuts with Dad, just let me know and I can tailor the wording in these documents to fit your needs! Download the preview to see each page in this document.
This document includes all the information you need to send home so parents and grandparents know about the celebration. It also includes all the activities your students will complete before, during and after the celebration.
Before the celebration students will learn about grandparents by reading several books and discussing grandparents’ character traits. They’ll have the opportunity to compare their grandparents with the grandparents from the stories. Students will also create a list of the top five reasons why they love their grandparent. This list will be given to their grandparent during the celebration.
Activities during the event include: a picture walk of photographs from when the grandparent was a child, an interview session, eating lunch together, creating bookmarks, and playing tic-tac-toe.
Then after the event, students will use the information they gathered during their interview to write a paragraph all about their grandparent.
When I did this celebration with my second graders I scheduled it for two hours. Grandparents came and we worked for 30 minutes on the picture walk and interview, then we went to lunch. When we returned to the classroom after lunch they finished the picture walk and interview, read a favorite book together, played tic-tac-toe and created bookmarks.
I hope you and your students enjoy this event as much as my students did! Please leave me feedback and let me know how it goes! If you can think of anything else I can include in this packet to make this event even more successful, please let me know that information as well!
Thanks for your purchase.
