This 11-page document reflects on the new and upcoming NYS English Regents on evidence-based writing. This is a modified version of the samples sent out by the state, but reflective of what Common Core will ultimately be pushing for in the future. The document includes an over-arching task to read 3 articles and write claim paragraphs for each of them linking back to the question, "What is the best way to learn?" Instead of just reading everything all at once, this product breaks down the paragraph writing by article, building on writing skills through the task requirements for each paragraph. The product will not teach students how or what to write (this will be up to you), but will lead students in the right direction. Once the students have read and written all of the paragraphs, they will put the pieces together with an intro and conclusion for a completed essay. The articles included in the document are related to over-practicing, the down-side of over-practicing, and a 1971 foundational TIME article on the need for de-schooling our society, or better put, developing interest in learning though hands-on experience. Graphic organizers are included for reading focus and help. A person who buys this product will be very pleased to use it near the beginning of a course or with a lower-level group who really needs to structure between articles. Thanks for your interest.
