Product Description

These notes come after reading an article about the science of fireworks and before the flame lab.

I conduct a flame demo using the salt solutions students will test later using wood splints. During the demo, I have a bunsen burner clamped and suspended on a ring stand, and I spray the ionic solutions beneath the burner to stimulate the increase and subsequent decrease of electron excitation resulting in the emission of colored photons. PRETTY & COOL!!!

Afterwards, we discuss and define salts as well as the tendencies of some metals in salts to emit colors based on the ease of exciting more loosely held electrons.
