Engaging analysis of embryological evidence for middle or high school!
Students enjoy trying to match cards of embryos in various stages of development to their species.
It's challenging but fun!
Related NGSS standards: MS-LS4-2, MS-LS4-3, HS-LS4-1
In this activity, students are given cards (provided, students can cut them out themselves or you can give them to them pre-cut) that show 3 different embryological stages of 6 different species (18 total cards). The worksheet page (1 page front/back) leads them step-by-step through manipulating the cards in an attempt to match each stage of development to the appropriate species. At the end of the activity, they will see you (or have it in a folder for them to check) for the REAL answers. Finally, students answer some analysis questions. (A key for the REAL matches is provided, but students' hypotheses will vary.)
