Begin your evolution unit with an inquiry investigation that has students using different types of text to learn about the evidence of evolution.
Students will pull out details, look for patterns, and do comparisons to try and figure how different evidences of evolution show the relationships between organisms. This is a great way to incorporate the Science Common Core standards for reading different types of text*.
