The evolution unit project requires students to research as aspect of the theory of evolution and write a newspaper article. The articles can then be combined using Microsoft Publisher to create a classroom newspaper. Students are required to submit a copy to an editor (another student) and make adjustments based on the advice of the editor, to model what it would be like to work for a newspaper or magazine company. A peer-editing form is included to guide students in this process. Ten research topics are given, however students can pursue topics of interest as approved by the teacher. This project is aligned with Common Core Standards. A rubric is included for students to self-assess and for teachers.
