Purpose: The overarching goal of this lesson is to teach students about Charles Darwin and the theory of Evolution. This lesson comes after learning about the eight levels of classification and before we move on to body systems. Evolution is important for students to understand because it’s part of who they are as humans and how they came to be on this earth.
Objectives: As a result of this lesson SWBAT:
• Explain the theory of evolution and how natural selection works.
• Give examples of ways in which different species adapt to their specific environments.
• Demonstrate how ‘survival of the fittest’ plays out during the Simulation Lab, and why species can go extinct.
