In this project students will choose an ecosystem of their choice. After describing in detail and producing a model of community interactions students then choose an environmental change that effects the keystone species of the ecosystem. After analysis of the effects of population decline students have the unique opportunity to witness evolution in progress. By identifying a mutation in the DNA the keystone species evolves a new trait in response the the environmental change. Students then use heredity and gene pool data to track the changes in population as the ecosystem stabilizes.
