To start a unit of technology with my gifted elementary students, I first started with the Evolution of Technology Cards. The cards are based on the slideshow, but no dates are listed. I made a large timeline on the board and had students guess when each invention was created by taping the cards to the board. The cards are in a Word Doc and are editable.
After the guesses, I went through the Evolution of Technology PPT to discuss. The 43 slide PowerPoint is editable for you to adjust as necessary for your students/class. Most slides have a link to a short YouTube video (mostly to show how things work). (Please note that the videos are not on my personal channel, and I have no control over them being deleted at any point.) I also brought in samples of "old" technology such as floppy disks, Walkman, albums, pagers, cassettes, etc.
While I created this with 3rd-5th grades in mind, it can be easily adapted to any age group.
