Using the graphic, students sit down and look through the book and other materials and come up with their own list of what will be on the test AND they have to evaluate/rank how important each topic is, as well as star (mark with a star) the one or two things they most want to review.
Not only can they not sit passively for this, they have to use higher-order thinking skills (Bloom's)
I don't get angry because they are tuning me out (I don't have to lecture them, prepare long lists, etc.)
I can quickly walk around and look at what they have starred and see what they feel they need most (or, I can make it their Ticket Out to tell me what they starred).
I have been using it for years and years and still love it.
