These handouts are designed to help students learn how to graph using Microsoft Excel. The Demo handout is designed for the instructor to illustrate the graphing procedure to the students. The Practice Lab is designed for students to practice their Excel graphing skills on four graphs of increasing complexity. Excel answer keys for all graphs are included.
The data sets that are utilized are position versus time and velocity versus time. The following graphing steps are illustrated:
Add trend line
Find and show equation
Set the y-intercept
Make variable and unit substitutions in the equation
Find average velocities
Find the R value for the line
Forecast the trend line forward and backwards
Make the graph background white
Make labels for the x and y axis
Add a title
Add major and minor grid lines
Add a legend for graphs with more than one data set
The following handouts are included in Excel or Word format:
