If you are a fan of guided reading AND Jan RIchardson's Next Steps in Guided Reading book then this is the product for YOU!
Her book is chockfull of best practices and clever ways to teach and get our kids to understand of bevy of strategies: retelling, visualizing, predicting, making connections, asking questions, determining importance, main idea and details, summarizing, cause & effect, character analysis, inferring and more. She scaffolds her strategies from easy to more difficult.
What I have done is created an Excel spreadsheet that lists all the big topics and all of her strategies to teach them. (See Preview) PLUS I have added the page numbers in her book so it is a quick reference. The best part is when you are planning this makes it a snap in terms of what to teach and what strategy/tool you will use. Another benefit is that you can plug in your kids’ names into the spreadsheet, print it out or leave it on your computer/laptop and use it like a gradebook. You can also use it to keep track of what you have taught. For example, you may find that one of your small groups needs more work in summarizing. You can refer to this spreadsheet to see what other activity you haven’t used. It is a great organizer! Terrific assessment tool and a quick reference tool for planning!
Thanks for considering it and stopping by!!
