Product Description
Are you ready for some football?! This writing prompt asks students to read paired texts and then write their opinion about whether the NFL should allow or continue to ban "excessive celebrations" in the end zone. (Perfect for football fans, fall writing, and/or Super Bowl time!) The texts are written in such a way that students can find 3 reasons for OR against the topic. Students will use the text evidence to fill out the graphic organizer, which guides them to write a 3-paragraph essay. Once you have proofread their drafts, give them the fun football-themed stationery and then grade their essays with the included rubric.

Included:
1. Text 1: A magazine article highlighting the most popular reasons for and against excessive celebrations in football.
2. Text 2: A magazine article that shares two football fans' perspectives (one for and one against) regarding excessive celebrations.
3. Writing Prompt & Tips: Explains the prompt and offers tips to help students do their best writing.
4. Opinion Essay Poster
5. Graphic Organizer: ORE-RE-REO style
6. Exemplar: I wrote a model essay with the opinion that excessive celebrations should be allowed. Show it to students to give them an idea of what you expect. However, there are at least 3 reasons in the texts that support the opposite opinion (that excessive celebrations should continue to be banned).
7. Stationery: There are 3 sheets of stationery to choose from. One with a football, one with players/cheerleaders/referee, and one with lines only. I usually do a mix of the graphics on one side and blank lines on the back. Students like having a choice. :)
8. Rubric: Based on 100 points, aligned with Common Core / TNReady Standards
