Let me start by saying this is one of my favorite projects I've ever made. The Presidents Project is a Common Core aligned, engaging, student-centered project that will allow your students to not only learn more about the presidents, but also to better understand what makes a president, good, bad, or "meh."
The first lesson begins with the class completing a warm up and then creating 4 major criteria for rating a president. This is an engaging, and student-centered process!
Next, students will complete be assigned a president, research him based on the class rubric, and write a summary about him. Students will then partner up for a presentation where they will present the President, inform the class about him, and reveal their rating of this president. The class will note the president and his dates in office on an epic timeline (created for thematic units but can be used for practically any curriculum). Next, based on student ratings of presidents, you'll pair presidents against one another and students will debate for the title of best, worst, or most "meh" president.
This project will last 1-2 weeks.
What to Expect:
Note: I HIGHLY recommend completing this lesson first for solid background, though it's not required.
Included Presidents (Editable): Teddy Roosevelt, William Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama
As I build the lessons that fit into this US History Thematic curriculum map, I'll add them to my TpT store and show you how I use them on Insta stories. Check out @mrspinteractiveclassroom and follow my TpT store (follow star) so you don't miss a beat!
