There is so much myth and confusion when it comes to the office of the Presidency, the executive branch, and what the President can and cannot do. This webquest and case study of George Washington are designed to help students better understand this complex topic.
First, students will complete a webquest that explores the President, Vice President, and the Executive Office of the President (EOP), including the 15 departments. Be the end of this webquest, students will better grasp the scope of the executive branch.
Second, students will listen to George Washington's episode of the Washington Post's Presidential Podcast. There is a worksheet for students to complete while listening which focuses on how Washington established his presidency, what he was like, and his legacy.
Third, students will take a 10-question multiple choice quiz on the executive branch. Questions center on the President's powers and answers from the webquest.
This lesson will take at least three 50 minute periods to complete.
