Memory Master as a fun game and remedial tool that strengthens executive functioning skills: working memory, management of distractions, attention to detail, stamina, response inhibition, as well as sustaining attention and mental shifting. For remediation, Memory Master helps players learn to encode and recall a series of directives. Players select a card and then hear the directives from the administrator. They player then says it (repeats back the directives), sees it (visualizes and add sensory details to the directives) and finally shows it (acts out the directives). After a distractor, players see what they can recall. For one to 4 players, this game can benefit students with learning disabilities, ADHD executive functioning disorder as well as the head injured and the elderly. Memory Master is a fabulous way to strengthen the brain - while having fun!
The research suggests that children are not born with executive functioning skills, however, they do have the potential to develop them. Just like going to the gym strengthens the body, activities that exercise executive functioning skills can improve mental capacity. According to the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, “When children have opportunities to develop executive function and self-regulation skills, individuals and society experience lifelong benefits. These skills are crucial for learning and development. They also enable positive behavior and allow us to make healthy choices for ourselves and our families.”
I now have video demonstrations of each of my executive functioning card games.
