Exit slips, quick checks, or formative assessments for Place Value with Rounding and Comparing multi-digit whole numbers! However you choose to use them, they will give you a quick and easy way to see what your students know, who needs help, and who needs a challenge. Questions go beyond a simple numeric answer, and require students to explain their thinking or identify the misunderstandings of others (in the problem) and explain what they should have done to solve the problem instead.

Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
