This document contains 3 exit tickets on a page for quick formative assessments of understanding.
In this exit ticket, students are asked to decide which set of meanings is correct for the terms rotate and revolve (two commonly confused words in astronomy). After distinguishing between the two, the student must explain how these terms describe Earth's motion (this response is written on the back of the exit ticket.). A teacher answer key/explanation is included on the cover sheet of the product that you will receive upon purchase.)
This assessment gives you, the teacher, a chance to examine your students' ideas about application of two commonly confused terms in astronomy - rotation and revolution. Hopefully, students will be able to apply "rotation" to the day/night cycle and "revolution" to the Earth's yearly path around the sun.
