Exit Tickets/Slips are a quick assessment that can be used to find out about student’s learning at the end of a lesson. These tickets can be used before students leave for: recess, lunch, their next subject, or the end of the day. Exit Tickets help teachers/educators assess if students have understood the lesson/message and therefore use this information to plan for the next lesson.

How to use an Exit Ticket:
1. Pose a question on a board and/or verbally ask a question. (What do you want to find out about students’ learning?)
2. Give students a time frame to complete the Exit Ticket.
3. When students are finished, you can collect the tickets by the door or have students place their ticket in a designated spot.
4. Examine the Tickets. (You can sort the tickets into different piles (understanding, misunderstanding, unsure).
5. Next steps – You can begin the next lesson with interesting ticket responses or graph/chart common responses

When can I use an Exit Ticket?
This can be used daily or weekly. You can use them at the end of class to check for understanding.
For example:
-What did you learn from the lesson? (Summarize key points)
-Did the students understand the lesson? (Have students answer a question)
-Do you have any questions about the lesson?

Other uses
Exit Tickets don’t always have to be used at the end of the lesson. It can also be used before a lesson, to see what students know about topics that will be discussed in the future. This can help bring ideas for the teachers' next day lesson.
