This exit ticket goes with my Text Talk Lesson Plan: Patricia Polacco "Christmas Tapestry." It is a story about people meeting the challenges of life with grace and at the same time changing others' lives. A pastor moves his young family to Detroit to take over a struggling church. He and his son find a beautiful tapestry at an antique shop, and invite an elderly Jewish woman they meet on the bus to warm up at the parsonage before they give her a ride home in their car. The tapestry, purchased to cover the damaged plaster behind the altar turns out to be the chuppa (canopy) from the woman’s wedding to the husband she was separated from as she was sent to a concentration camp. This story has a very happy ending, and is a great way to share the common heritages of Jewish and Christian Students.
