This is a greatly expanded version of "33 Steps" with an Appendix of over 70 of my original lesson plans.
You can adapt them for your own use, sprinkled throughout a semester to give your students an alternative to textbook lessons.
I teach English composition (and won four Teacher of the Year awards) and these are my classroom-tested best bets for engaged critical thinking and writing.
I have included longer projects with in-class exercises on a wide variety of topics -- from simple personal narratives to challenging lessons giving students valuable practice in analysis and clear exposition.
These should be of use to almost any instructor (middle grades and up) who seeks to give students the advantage of rigorous writing. Our students respond well to lessons with real-world relevance. They will have an advantage moving forward if you can teach them to harness information and formulate arguments.
