Use expanding expressions to describe items in a mystery box! Mystery boxes are great engaging activities to get your students using descriptive language!
Simply fill a box with interesting and unique materials (maybe 3 or 4 items) then ask students to reach in the box and describe what they feel. EET helps students develop descriptive language in their writing and can motivate even the most hesitant writers! Great strategy for developing language with English learners.
I use the bubble to decorate the mystery box on the outside. Cut out the question mark tickets and distribute one to each student. Students may turn in a ticket to feel inside the mystery box one additional time. (optional)
I have modified this activity to use with students from 1st to 5th grade!
