This is a lab activity that allows for students to expand their understanding of Mendel's laws and selection practices that are used for in selection of a mate. It is intended to be a simulation lab exercise but can be used as a homework assignment and even as an assessment of understanding. It also allows for the students that are creative and artistic to see how those skills can be used in biological sciences. This activity has been utilized in its current from within courses ranging from middle and high school biology classes to anthropology and biology courses at 2-, and 4-, year colleges where we have changed the total traits being examined and principle of linkage of traits.
