Product Description
These complete lessons help students identify and respond positively to expected and unexpected behaviours as part of your culturally responsive classroom. Each lesson takes 10 minutes or less to prepare and each comes with a variety of activities that help students understand why unexpected behaviors happen through role playing, group work, writing, colouring and collaborating with classmates to help others respond positively.

Background information is included for teaching and building an anchor chart. Each lesson ranges from 30-60 minutes and has modifications for reinforcement and extensions without spending extra time preparing the lessons.

Lesson plans are written with Canadian spellings, but all student pages come in both Canadian/British or American spellings.

The lessons included in this product are:
What are Expected and Unexpected Behaviors?
Thoughts and Feelings
Behaviors and Positive Responses
Why People Behave Unexpectedly

This is a great unit to begin the school year off with as you can use it to set the tone for interactions between students. It has been classroom tested with fourth and fifth graders several times and they love the role playing. If your classroom is a Universal Design for Learning classroom, this will set the tone for all students to deal with the differentiated learning environment.

These lessons were designed to align with the Alberta Program of Studies for health for grades three through six, but they are general enough to be used in any elementary health classroom. These lessons can work in "regular" classrooms, inclusive settings and special education rooms.
