This product will support you in creating an experience for the sounds of AU & AW with your students. Through reading The Story of Two Vowels after their Run students will learn about the second exception to the rule "when two vowels go walking the first one does the talking." Using the idea of a puppy named A who offers comfort to his friends U & W when they return injured from their run, students experience and visualize the letters coming together and saying "Aww, I hope you feel better!"
After creating this experience for your students they may practice creating their own AU & AW words using the Word Work Mat which includes clip art from the story to assist recall of the sound pattern. Games for literacy centers are also included so students can independently practice reading AU & AW words in a fun way.
