Experiment: Extracting DNA from Strawberries
With easy-to-find objects (strawberries, coffee filter, rubbing alcohol, etc.), you will extract DNA from strawberries and actually see the DNA’s long white cottony strands.
In this experiment, you will learn that:
1. extracted DNA dissolves in water (or aqueous) environments.
2. extracted DNA is insoluble in alcohol.
3. extracted DNA likes to cling to itself, forming a slimy glob.
4. extracted DNA is long and stretchable.
