This investigation uses the scientific method to answer the question:
Does the amount of rooting hormone affect the length of the roots when cloning?
This investigation meets the K-2nd grade *Next Generation Science Standards: Science and Engineering practices and 1st grade From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes. While investigating cloning in plants students will learn the parts of an investigation. They will compose a hypothesis, record observations and measurements, graph their data, and write a conclusion. By the end of the investigation students should be able to explain that rooting hormone helps roots grow faster and healthier. All of this done in an age appropriate way for kindergarteners and first graders.

This investigation is part of a series. The investigation is also available for 2/3 and 4/5. The K-1st grade journal focuses on with or without rooting hormone. The 2nd-3rd grade journal focuses on the amount of rooting hormone and students do 3 tests. The 4th-5th grade journal focus on the same concept as the 2nd-3rd grade journal, but students will do 3 trials of each and calculate the average. The grade level adjustments make it a great way for a homeschool class to teach the same concept to multiple ages. It also is great for science fairs.
