In this performance assessment students will develop and test a design change of the Hoop Glider to increase its flight distance.

This is a curriculum-embedded performance assessment. Curriculum-embedded performance assessments connect curriculum instruction (what the students are learning and doing) with assessment. It is meant to measure multiple performance outcomes and provide the teacher with evidence about students' ability to apply their knowledge of science process skills and experimental design.

There are opportunities for students to work collaboratively, but also produce individual products. There are also opportunities for students to self-assess, peer assess, and to utilize those assessments in the revision process. The final product can be individual or team collaboration.

The main focus of this assessment is using science process skills to design and conduct an experiment. Through the implementation of this performance assessment students will:
 *Make observations
 *Ask questions and formulate a statement of the problem
 *Develop a testable hypothesis
 *Make measurements
 *Identify variables
 *Develop a procedure that includes a specific list of
materials
 *Collect, organize, and represent qualitative and
quantitative data
 *Analyze and interpret data
 *Draw conclusions
 *Communicate findings
