This PowerPoint presentation is used to teach students the different parts of the experimental design. Students can take notes over the material on the provided foldable that goes along with the presentation. Students will learn the differences between experimental group and the control group. They will also learn the difference between an independent variable and dependent variable, experimental error, and constants. This PowerPoint presentation also includes "problems" for students to practice identifying the variables in scientific statements. The last slide asks the question "Does Gender Affect Aim?"
Set up a trash can (or a fancier target) and have students line up into two lines: boys vs. girls. Students will take turns shooting the ball at the target. Keep track of who makes it the most.
For a more advanced crowd, divide students up into small groups of 4-6 students. Have students conduct the experiment themselves to determine if gender affects aim.
