Taking a turn from the simple worksheet, this document provides several components to help you engage students in authentic, meaningful inquiry in a variety of content areas. It is written from the middle school science perspective, and addresses the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices, but could easily cut across other topics and classes.
Included in this 8-page outline:
Introduction and overview of the peer review process
Connection to NGSS Practices and Crosscutting Concepts
Mini Poster Headings
Peer Review Rubric
Choose your favorite lab, and instead of filling in the blanks, have students ask questions and explore their own ideas using this creative framework. Allow students to practice project presentations in a less risky environment than simply an end-of-year wrap-up project.
This document has been a work in progress for many years and continues to be so. Please use this as you see fit and feel free to make changes and innovate as necessary.
This presentation and associated materials have been adapted from work done by Brad Williamson and others, through the Kansas Association of Biology Teachers (KABT), National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT), and the UKanTeach Program at the University of Kansas.
