This is an explicit lesson plan to teach students a step by step strategy for making predictions while reading text. It includes a graphic organizer. Explicit Instruction is an evidence based practice which yields a high effect size when used to teach students with disabilities. This lesson can be modified to be used with students in grades 1-5. It can be used more than once since the teacher selects the story or passage to be used with the lesson. Once the student has internalized the strategy, he/she should be encouraged to employ the strategy independently while reading text to improve comprehension.
